my tummy

I’m 33weeks pregnant.
My body is changing.
I have big tummy, itchy skin, heartburn and I’m eating lots of sweets!
That thing sometimes makes me crazy and annoying.
But my 3years son loves my tummy and baby.
He kisses my tummy every morning, night and all the time.
And he talks to baby often.
I really love to see this.
My son makes me so happy and my heart is warming.
I love my son and baby so much and my tummy too!

Yoshie

Yoshie is from our ESOL class and is making fantastic progress with her English due to her conscientious efforts.
Here is one of her stories:
Ouch in my jeans
I visited Melbourne and the Great Ocean Road with my husband during the last week of December last year for the first time.
At first we went to the gardens in Melbourne. They were lovely and fun!
In one of the gardens there was Captain Cook’s house which came from England.
It was very interesting. I learnt about old life in England.
Next we went to the Great Ocean Road. That’s great! The sea is beautiful!
We spent a little time and took some photos on the beach.
We had a good time. Then we got into our car to go to another place.
“Ouch!” I shouted.
“What’s happened?” my husband said.
“Ouch!!” I shouted again. “Something is in my jeans. What, what??”
I looked at my legs. There was a bull ant on my ankle. “An ant! A big ant is here!”
“I think you were bitten by an ant. Take your jeans off !” he said.
So I took my jeans off quickly. Another ant was on my thigh. I had been bitten twice.
I felt more and more pain.
“Ouch! Ouch!” I continued to shout and left my jeans off for an hour while we drove in the car….

Lenny

Lenny is one of our ESOL students. Here is one of his stories:
I was born in Sicily, Italy 21 -3- 1949. My mother was Angela and my father Peter. My sister, Francesca, was born 3 years before me. We had a vegetable farm and we would take vegetables with horse to the shop in the town.
We came to Australia, to Leeton, when I was 13. My sister and brother-in-law were living here by then. One year later I started high school. After two years I went to work for the council. I stayed working there for 32years before I retired.
I met my wife, Mary, when I was about 20 and we married when I was 25 on 26-10-68. It was an arranged marriage between our families.

Santo

Santo is in the ESOL class and enjoys writing stories. Here is one:
MY PRICKLY PEAR FRUIT
I like birds. They’re beautiful when they fly. Many of them have lovely colours. But I was sick and tired of that cocky it caused too much trouble. It really had a lot of nerve. Every morning it came to my backyard and ate all the prickly pear fruit one by one. It was very careful to eat the best. It took great pains to do so.
And so I decided to stop its mischief. I wanted to give the cocky a taste of its own medicine. I built the ugliest looking scarecrow you ever saw. I dressed it in old clothes and put it in the yard. Would it work? I really wasn’t sure. I felt it in my bones that the parrot might know it was a trick.
The next day I decided to see what was happening. I paused for a moment, held my breath, and looked out the window.
There in the middle of the yard was the cocky pulling out straws from the hat on my scarecrow. And I could see that more prickly pears had been eaten.
Clearly, I had to think of a new plan.

Louie

Louie writes about the course she is doing here at the Leeton TAFE - "Springboard":
What I get from SPRING BOARD
I get to do things like meet new people, make new friends, learn new stuff like cooking, cleaning, doing forms, making an apron and doing stuff on the computer etc.. I like my teachers and they help me find out lots of things that I wouldn’t know otherwise without them there with me to help me.
Today a man named DAVID from CENTRELINK came to class and told us things that affect or improve our pension. I was a bit confused with him but that’s just me. Our DAVID HOLT helped me fill in a form and it was no trouble to him. I was very grateful to him for doing that for me cause otherwise I wouldn’t be able to do it on my own cause it gets very confusing for me to do on my own.
It is a great class I reckon and it gets me out of my room at home and helps me to mix socially with other people who have trouble just like me. I feel alone at home and this class helps me get out there and into it, a lot more than I would do normally at home. I feel like I matter here and the teachers are really great towards me and that makes me feel good about myself. I look forward to my classes and I am disappointed if they are called off for whatever reason. They are really important to me and that makes a big difference in my life.
